Pre & Post Natal Care

Chiropractic care is essential for the pregnant mother. Her systems and organs are now providing for two and their optimal function is critical for the baby’s healthy development. The mother’s spine and pelvis undergoes many changes and adaptations to compensate for the growing baby and the risk of interference to her nervous system is increased. Rosewood Family Healing Center takes a gentle approach to adjustments and her patients notice the difference.
Most women don't realize that getting checked and adjusted during pregnancy even when there might not be any uncomfortable symptoms is a smart and preventative approach to a smooth pregnancy. We believe that feeling healthy and energetic during pregnancy is not the exception, but should be the norm!
We recommend that mothers schedule Chiropractic & Craniosacral visits so that they coincide with the traditional schedule of prenatal visits. However, we do see some patients more frequently if they are in pain or have other needs.

THE EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE OF PREGNANCY & BIRTHING
In our experience, pregnancy and birthing is about opening. Our hearts open, our pelvis opens, we are opening ourselves to trusting ourselves, and we are opening to another phase of our lives. We are given the opportunity to trust our baby, and to trust the birthing process.
As we create more space both physically and emotionally, unresolved emotional issues that we are holding onto may come forward. These can be things like the fear of birth, fear of pain, sexual trauma, fear of abandonment, fear of trusting, fear of surrendering, or any other emotional energy a woman may be holding in her pelvis. This can be unexpected and scary for many women. It's easy to want to ignore or repress these surfacing emotional issues. But doing so can have an unwanted impact on your birthing experience.
We help women who are ready to release and heal these emotional issues. Craniosacral is an effective tool for identifying these emotional blocks. Since fear is a universal experience to varying degrees, we've found that being open and honest with ourselves, and not making fear 'bad' or 'wrong' is how we can heal it more quickly and with grace.
With this being said, many women don't have this experience. Many women use craniosacral to tap into a deeper part of themselves, into their babies, whatever else they may be working on. Regardless, craniosacral gives us the opportunity to go deeper and to support the deepest level of healing available.

POSTNATAL CARE
This is one of the most important, yet overlooked aspect of care. It's easy for mothers to just focus on their newborn while ignoring their own needs at the expense of their healing and physical well-being. This is especially true where the mother (or baby) has experienced emotional or physical trauma during birth, long labors, or other birthing complications. Coming in as soon after the birth as possible is preferred before any compensations are made.
In other, less urgent cases, we recommend that the mother come in to be cared for within six weeks postpartum because there are still relaxin hormones in her system. Therefore, it's highly beneficial to get back into alignment before ligaments re-tighten and the skeleton reverts back to its baseline form.
As mothers, our main concern postpartum is to feed our baby and help it get enough sleep. As a result, we can find ourselves in all kinds of uncomfortable positions which creates spinal misalignment in our own body. Supporting the spine during this time allows the mother to support herself as she takes care of her newborn.

FAQs: Pre & Postnatal Care
1) Do you perform the Webster Technique?
Yes! I'm certified in the Webster Technique, which supports the baby’s positioning and gives the mother more space in her womb - this facilitates more comfort for the mother and gives the baby more space to get into proper positioning.
2) Is Chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Not only is chiropractic safe but it is so important for the mother's capability to carry her child in an optimal way. Great care is taken to make sure the mom is comfortable and we have 12+ years of experience supporting moms eliminating nerve interference and pain whereby creating an ideal situation for their bodies and for their babies to birth.
3) Do you support C-Section mothers after delivery?
Every mom, every baby, every birthing experience can be supported by regular chiropractic care. For both mother and infant, Chiropractic and Craniosacral therapies are an incredible, health conscious way to transition to the parenting chapter, regardless of the birth story. We have great empathy for mommas who had a birth experience that was not concurrent with their expectations. Chiropractic can get their nervous systems back on track and craniosacral can support any emotional healing that is available to release.
4) What about VBAC support?
We love supporting VBAC moms! We find these women so courageous and willing to do the work to have the birth that they dream of! Typically, theirs is an extraordinary journey, not only preparing for physical birth but also addressing the fears and anxieties that may have surfaced from their previous birth. VBAC moms have a unique opportunity to embrace their inner strength. They have the opportunity to really be with themselves in a compassionate and fiercely loving way as they labor and birth. The VBAC experience can be a chance to "re-write" your birth story in a liberating and self-honoring way.
5) Do you make home visits?
